Description:
Historically, I think we all know how resilient the Japanese people are. On my trip to Vietnam last October, I visited Ha Long Bay, a very zenlike destination. I was so impressed with this special place, that I sought more history on this World Heritage Site off the coast of North Vietnam. Local lore describes how the early Vietnamese people from this region were constantly besieged by Mongol invaders to the North. Legend says that a mythical dragon descended from the heavens to help and protect the people. The bay is peppered with giant sandstone islands, jutting up out of the calm emerald green waters, and thus, resembling portions of the serpent like dragon, partially submerged, an enduring sentinel.
Ha Long literally means \"Descending Dragon,\" representing water and Yang energy. I had just finished this painting when the devastating Tsunamis hit the coastal cities of Japan. Amazed by the destruction I witnessed from here in the U.S.A., I wondered how I could make a difference. I had my photographer and his graphic artist create this rendering, and had 1000 temporary tattoos made, which I handed out to children and patients in my office, college students at Point Loma Nazarene University, my Japan Karate Organization dojo, and whomever I came in contact with, with the goal of simply raising awareness. I will dedicate any proceeds from the sale of this poster to continuing Japan relief efforts as they rebuild in the wake of the tsunami. Donations will be forwarded to the Japanese Red Cross Society via the Japanese Consulate in L.A. Please tell a friend.
